Pia, such events can be opportunities and/or mind-crushing calamities. Some children are literally destroyed by such events. Others, such as our dear friend, learn from them. Not only did she learn, but she has helped countless others through the same horrendous experiences. And she can laugh in the telling... or cry, which ever is appropriate. Her experiences enable her to understand people at a level not known to many as is expressed in her stories and poetry. Why some learn and others spiritually 'die' is not known to me. It's not just the age of the child, for our friend was only four when it began for her. I suspect it has something to do with the spirit, how much resiliency the person has, which may even be genetic. Good question, sweet pea.
Jeff is also right that things will be brought into balance eventually.
A place for finding peace and hope in the words and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ by a humble servant and Christian psychologist and minister in Iowa, trying to live day by day in a harsh world. Not a perfect man, but knowing a perfect love.
